Description: Paekakariki is a place where S meets up with SW and where the uplift can form local and very savage fronts. We see some doozer storms here at times, and they can hit us at 140-160 km/h. This one formed on 4 Oct 2014, as the SW collided with a big polar Southerly front. Brrr it was cold. Being orographic, they form very low down to sea level here, hence hitting us so hard. This is a classic low down front which had just formed.
