| January 24, 2013, 08:03:37 PM It was, Deano. There are two boats that ply the river - the other is a larger vessel. Today's one is the original cream boat. The Mokau is a very wide river at its lower reaches but it becomes narrow further up. I think the vessel I was on will go to around 15km up, but in the old days it was 50 km +. I believe there was some dredging done for that to take place. Very dense bush, heaps of Nikau and many elaborate whitebait stands. The water changes colour as you might expect. Very blue to start then brown a few km up. heaps of eels and mullet, ducks etc |
