Description: Explosive cyclogenesis - Front exploding into action over Kapiti Island on 15 May 2015. One of 4 mesoscale fronts to form that day. The rising white cumulus on the LHS formed into a mesocyclone, and you can see the actual front forming to the LHS of that. We see a fair bit of this now. With the fronts encircling us, it was so lucky that a westerly didn't form. NIWA tells me that the mesoscale fronts forming here are world first stuff. Our climate has been classified as mid-west now. Certainly see some stuff in Paekakariki now.
