Steel series gauges
« on: December 30, 2014, 08:58:54 AM »
hi

Has anyone managed to set up the steel series gauges, preferably with wd?

I have the file create and upload working okay, but the template I'm using ( Leuven) returns an error.

Text file download corrupted

Hunting around it looks like it is an error with the customclientraw.txt file that is generated. But I've checked the format, and it is UTF8 and no units of measure.

The sample file has everything included in curly brackets, so as a starting point it might be useful if someone was able to post a copy of their file, or pm a link to me?

Other option I thought about was that the script was actually pointing at the wrong file, but I've been through everything I can see and configured it as best I can, so that might be the second place to look if the file looks fine

Thanks in advance

Cheers, Andrew

Hi Gabba,

In case you have not seen this wiki it may help.
http://wiki.leuven-template.eu/doku.php?id=uploadwd

That customclientrawlocal.txt needs to be processed and upload as customclientraw.txt to the folder
weather2/uploadWD/

I guess this would be a custom entry in WD as is in Cumulus.

This is just a demo template so only half of it is configured and working. Here are the gauges which are live and working.

Yep seen that. Mine is going to a ../data folder. The file gets there okay and seems to update but I'm not entirely sure it is the right format. A customclientraw from a site that is working would help confirm if I have the format right, and then I can go from there.

I use Cumulus and not WD so not sure if this will help you.  But since the gauges-ss were originally developed by Mark to work with Cumulus I have compared my Cumulus processed realtimegauges.txt and your WD customclientraw.txt and these are quite similar with just 5 extra data lines in realtimegauges.txt - see attached.

I have also attached the Cumulus realtimegaugesT.txt template file used for processing and upload.

Enjoy,
Paul

Thought on this while I slept :)
The customclientraw.txt file included in the leuven package should be 100% correct. I doubt this is the problem.

When I tried to hide this template in a folder and not in root/weather2/ as suggested, it mucked everything up. I suggest do as I did even if temporary to see if it fixes it. Put it in your root directory in a folder called /weather2/
Copy across the package as downloaded. Redo the settings file and put the paths back to the defaults. Might even be safer to do a new copy and dont touch paths. Reset those 3 or 4 files in WD to upload to weather2/uploadWD/ and see what happens. As you see that template has a lot of include files, some what confusing. It would only take one path in one of those files to be incorrect to trash things.

I am not saying this will fix it but at least you will know all the paths in the files will be correct as the author has written.

*shrug*, grasping at straws somewhat, but this is what fixed mine :)

Jenny's post refreshed my memory of when I first installed the Leuven template back in 2012 http://www.komokaweather.com/weather2/index.php?p=25
That is a very early version of the template set that I haven't updated for a couple of years but I do recall now that I also had been told to put it in root /weather2/ and a couple of other files in root /

Again, mine is based on Cumulus so some minor differences.

Enjoy,
Paul

Fisrt: thanks for testing the leuven-Template.

The script which creates the realtime file on the server and which is called by the javascript-gauges can be set in debug mode:
http://www.huttweather.co.nz/weather2/gauges/realtimeWD.php?debug[/url]
You see you get some irrelevant errors now, that is because the opening and closing {} are missing from what should be a json string.

If you run into a problem you can always check if the demo system has the same "problem"
http://www.weerstation-leuven.be/weather2/gauges/realtimeWD.php?debug

So please use a correct customclientraw.txt and let WD upload it to your upload folder.

Hope this helps.

Hi Wim

Thanks for tracking this down and responding. It's and awesome template by the way. I gave up on the steel series guages and went off to configure the rest of the template. I had changed a few things in the code in an attempt to get everything pointing in the right place (Very naughty!), so that caused a few problems.

I took the brackets off the JSON string because I saw here in the help file (under uploads) that the brackets weren't there. I thought I had put them back on again, but maybe I only did it in the server file, and not the local file, so I can check it tonight

Thanks for the debug command - that will be a big help!

I now get a "downloading..." message only, so I will check the above and if not, will work my way back through the files again. Back at work now (sigh!), so this hasn't got the same focus as it had last week!

Cheers and thanks again

Yep - that fixed it. Had forgotten to change the local file back! All working now. Just need to tidy up the rest of the template. Thanks again
