Davis Vantage Pro Barometer setting height
« on: May 27, 2012, 09:39:06 AM »
Yesterday  I had a call from a local farmer asking about the accuracy of my barometer readings. He's a pilot and had been comparing the readings from stations and commented on the variability of them even when the country is covered by a stationary high pressure system. He was obviously on a mission, as he turned up later with an altimeter and after walking down to the beach and phoning his wife to see what my barometer reading was, then called in and checked the altimeter against the weather station. The reading was 300ft.  Checking my station setting I found it to be set at 295ft. Google maps had my position at 86m or 282ft, but I had adjusted it upwards so that the readings corresponded more closely to Cheviot Zita Farm. I'm wondering though should the height be measured where the station is sited or where the console is situated? (a difference of about 12ft.). The comforting feature of the whole saga was that he was pretty satisfied with the accuracy of my station reading.

cheers

The baro sensors are in the console itself, so the altitude should be that of the console not the ISS
