New Forum Function - Adding some flavour to your posts
« on: April 01, 2012, 09:43:39 AM »
Hi all

As part of our continuous improvement program, and to improve the experience offered by the forum to it's members, a new function has been added to the forum. After many long hours of work and testing behind the scenes, we implemented this change last night on a trial basis, so it's time to make an official announcement on the change, and based on user reports this morning we are pleased to see it has been an overwhelming success.

The moderators have long felt that our members experience could be augmented by adding more flavour to posts. The new forum mod does this by distributing a small measured amount of flavour with each post.

Users who are successfully running the updated module have reported smelling a range of flavours from their PC / Macs while browsing the forum. These include
  • Bacon and Eggs
  • Marmite on toast
  • Porridge and Golden Syrup

The flavour range is considerable, and includes Avocado, Peach, Ricotta, Icecream, Liquorish as well as Fig, Oregano, Orange, and Lo-quot.

"Managing the range of browsers, along with the flavour quantities has been challenging" says project lead, gabba - primarily because the CSS tag for "flavour" is not consistent across multiple browser environments. As a result some people are experiencing a mixed nasal stimulation experience (NSE) from the upgrade. For example as I sit here now I can smell weetbix and curry. However the mod team have, as always, done a wonderful effort and some very long nights in bringing this to the live site in such a short time frame. We're proud of the fact that this functionality is now available on the forum, which is most likely a first in the world.

Now that the launch is underway it would be useful if members can post their own experiences with the upgrade below - be they good or bad - particularly if any nasty combinations are emanating from your computer. We would also like to keep track of how far the NSE progresses through the NZ Local Weather Network. As the mod is CPU, and bandwidth taxing, the short term trial will be concluding at midday today.

Thanks for your help, and enjoy your new experience

Thanks very much, (Tongue in cheek). I have already experienced this. I got strawberries and ice cream. The pungent smell was just over whelming. Thank you so much for you continued striving to improve our site. I am sure this world first "Smelly Vision" site will attract members world wide.

Of course due to the time difference I had to wait a while.
All I got was a faint whiff of Raspberry - perhaps the distance is too great ?

We put some spring flavour in just for you. The Rasberries weren't quite as ripe as we would have liked them, sorry  :)

How about a freshly-brewed coffee?

Mine must have suffered from sensory overload, just smoke and a distinct hot bruning smell!
