Waitakere

Recorded the warmest August day here yesterday, 2nd August - reaching 20.6°C

This beats the previous station record (18.4°C on 8th August 2103) by a significant margin.

I have also recorded 18.8°C on 30th August 2009 - but that was pre Davis days when the sensor was in a different location too.

A lot of moaning and groaning is going on over here in Northern Hawkes Bay as the locals experience a cold, overcast August. Rainfall is pretty much normal but the cold southerly winds can be blamed for the decrease in temperatures.
Below is a comparison of the daily high temps for the last week in 2013 and 2014. Big difference huh.

Severe cold continues with some station records set:

Lowest Temperature   -29.0 °C at 12:26 AM on 16 February 2015 (previous record was in 2009)
Lowest Dew Point       -31.4 °C at 12:26 AM on 16 February 2015
Lowest Apparent Temperature  -32.9 °C at 12:26 AM on 16 February 2015

Winds were generally calm so low wind chill only -34.1

Today is Family Day holiday in Ontario so lots of outdoor activities planned.  Some will be happy that many of the activities are also indoors - http://www.komokakilworthoptimistclub.ca/index_files/Family_Day_2015.pdf

Not a record but a pretty good stretch for May.

Consecutive Dry Days of 14 for the first 2 weeks of May.
Rainfall over that period in years gone should be around 70mm.

East coast is well done this May with Nuhaka recording the highest of 25mm and Gisborne averaging 15mm.
Wairoa has only had 1 decent rain day of 14.0mm.

High Temperature    35.9 °C    at 13:23
High Apparent Temperature    39.2 °C    at 13:24

Even though we are now back down to 24, the air still feels wet . . . er no hang on, that's just me perspiring like a little oinker, my bad  :-[

The 17th set a new record for the Sandy Bay station which has been operating since Easter last year.

The 1 day record for rainfall is now 134mm.

Previous records for one day rain:
78.4mm on 24-DEC-2015
61.4mm on 18-APR-2015

This also sets the record for the Davis "Storm Rain" algorithm at 134.4mm (so far). This storm should be considered finished at around 4am tomorrow assuming there is no further rain.

Previous records are:
95.6mm in 1d17h15m from 23-DEC-2015 14:15
83.8mm in 3d3h35m from 1-JAN-2016 05:35
Sandy Bay, Coromandel Peninsular - Vantage Pro2 Plus, webcam
Hamilton East - Vantage Pro2 Plus
Ruakura, Hamilton - Offline, maybe permanently, due to failed T/H sensor

9th September 2016 second windiest Day I have on record.

Windrun 692.6
High Wind Gust 75km/hr
Not extremes compared to the rest of New Zealand but certainly is for us on the East Coast.

Mark was that 113km/hr on the 7th of September your highest Wind Gust?
